Asif not ready yet for Pakistan
Mohammad Asif
Asif is set to return to action in the one-day series
Pakistan will not risk Mohammad Asif for the final Test against England following the elbow injury which kept him out of the first three games.

The paceman, 23, was due to join the squad ahead of next week's Oval Test after returning home for treatment.

But coach Bob Woolmers wants him to concentrate on preparing for the five one-day internationals which follow.

All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez will reinforce a squad which is 2-0 down in the Tests after losing at Headingley.

Another paceman, Shoaib Akhtar, is working his way back after an ankle problem and Woolmer is reluctant to pitch him into a Test with little match practice behind him.

"We will have a look at him against West Indies A this week but to rush someone into a Test after six months of not bowling would make any bowler shudder at the very thought of it if they weren't fully fit," the Englishman explained.

"It will really be up to him to prove he is fit at Shenley and if he isn't he won't play.

"Let's face it, the other day our three fast bowlers bowled superbly and to bring in somone who hasn't played for six months would be wrong to those three people.

"We need to keep this team solid, not panic, we have been outplayed by a team playing at home and we will have to go back to the drawing board and get things right."

Meanwhile, Pakistan are trying to add Shahid Nazir, who performed impressively in Leeds, to their provisional squad for next month's Champions Trophy in India.

The seamer was originally omitted from the 30-man list sent to the International Cricket Council (ICC), whose rules state a country must name it's final 14-man squad from the provisional list.
