Vaughan hints at plan to cancel
Michael Vaughan
England captain Michael Vaughan has hinted that the controversial Zimbabwe tour may yet be called off if the team has to meet President Robert Mugabe.

"We have had confirmation from (ECB chairman) David Morgan that the team will not be put in a position to shake any government member's hand," he said.

"The tour will be really looked at if something like that happens."

The tourists play four one-day matches over the course of a week and Mugabe, patron of Zimbabwe Cricket, may attend.

Vaughan added that Morgan has insisted the team be kept out of contentious situations with the Zimbabwe president.

"David has confirmed to me just now that none of the players and certainly not myself will be put in that position and we have a plan if that does happen," he said.

"We hope it doesn't happen but the tour will be assessed throughout the whole week, not just on this game, and we'll see what happens from there."
