Latest: England 231 beat West Indies by seven wickets

England wrapped up a series victory over West Indies with a seven-wicket win in the third Test, chasing an Old Trafford record 231 on the final day.

Rob Key was the star with 93, sharing a partnership of 84 with skipper Michael Vaughan, who made a battling 33.

But the match was in the balance until Andrew Flintoff joined Key, making 57 in an unbroken stand of 120.

England bowled the tourists out for 165 first thing, Steve Harmison taking the last wicket to finish with 4-44.

1712: Flintoff hits the winning run.

1711: Key attempts a big one but it falls shy and they run three.

1710: Flintoff smashes Sarwan for a second six, to the delight of his home fans.

1706: Key plays a wonderful shot off Gayle for four.

1703: Flintoff notches up a half-century by smashing Sarwan for six, the first maximum of the day, another delivery then hits the stumps but does nor knock the bails off.

1701: Flintoff and Key pinch singles off Gayle.

1655: Key sweeps Gayle through fine leg for four to bring up the 200, taking England to within 30.

1649: Part-time spinner Sarwan replaces Collins, allowing two and a leg-bye.

1648: Flintoff perfectly places a wide delivery for another boundary.

1634: Collymore is rested from the Pavilion End with Bravo picking up the ball but he cannot stem the steady flow of runs.

1628: Collins replaces Edwards at the Brian Statham End and Flintoff smashes a no-ball for four, just missing Key's head.

1623: Flintoff almost drags an Edwards delivery onto his stumps.

1615: Bravo fields well on the cover rope to prevent a Key boundary.

1611: Edwards appears to be struggling for rhythm as he stops mid run-up and tries again. Key drives him to midwicket and runs three. He already has his second-highest Test score, bettering his 52 against Australia in Melbourne but a long way off that 221 at Lord's.

1604: Key edges Collymore between first and second slip. Joseph dives but cannot hold on one-handed.

1602: Collymore bowls the first over after tea, and Key greets him with a hook to bring up the 150.

Tea: England 146-3 (Key 51, Flintoff 22)

1540: With men back for the hook, Flintoff takes a couple of blows fending off short deliveries from Edwards.

1536: After a warning from the umpires over his choice of words, Key nudges Gayle for a single to bring up his second Test half-century from 127 balls. A quick acknowledgement and then it is back to work.

1529: Edwards returns for the first time this session. He over-steps but gains a psychological victory as Flintoff ducks into a short one. Flintoff retaliates hooking four but that appears to be Edwards' plan. He tries the hook again and does not quite connect, the ball lobbing wide of the keeper.

Key and Edwards exchange obvious verbals between deliveries.

1526: Flintoff square-drives Gayle for an effortless boundary.

1524: Mohammad replaces Bravo and is pulled to the midwicket fence by Key, hungry for his half-century.

1517: Bravo loses control of his slower ball and Flintoff helps it to the fine leg boundary.

1513: Gayle employs a good degree of variation to make Flintoff drive at thin air. He finally gets two behind square on the leg side.

1507: New batsman Flintoff gets off the mark with a driven single, to the delight of his home crowd.

1503: West Indies turn to the off-spin of Gayle, with immediate results as his first delivery leaps at Vaughan and the England skipper gets an edge to a delighted Lara at slip. England 111-3 (Vaughan 33)

1453: Leaping salmon-like, Baugh just gets a glove to a flick from Key - a difficult chance.

1448: As the players take drinks the groundsmen hover near the covers, and a black cloud hovers over the pavilion.

1444: Vaughan escapes again as cover fielder Mohammad throws to the striker's end with the England skipper short of a single.

1439: Key gets an inside edge to a Bravo inswinger, denying the lbw appeal and bringing up the England 100.

1437: Collympire keeps Vaughan waiting to bring up the 100 with a bat-shaving maiden.

1429: After a maiden from Collymore to Key, Bravo replaces Mohammad, looking to tempt Vaughan outside off-stump.

1424: Vaughan drives a toiling Mohammad through the covers for four.

1420: Vaughan gets a third life as he inside-edges Collymore just past his stumps for four.

1411: Collymore returns to replace Collins. The batsmen swap singles while he is settling in.

1409: Mohammad is tight but getting little turn, with the rough unavailable when bowling to this right-handed pair.

1404: Collins over-steps again, Vaughan nudges another single and the dominance West Indies enjoyed before lunch is now far less evident.

1359: Vaughan rocks back and late-cuts three off Mohammad. Key sweeps just fine of the short leg fielder.

1357: Key uses a nimble flick to get through midwicket and add four.

1351: The crowd slow-claps as West Indies take time over their field for the arrival of spinner Mohammad and break into applause as Key drives his first delivery through the covers.

1344: Collins starts the afternoon session with two no balls in an over to Vaughan. The England skipper finds the gap between mid off and extra cover with that classic cover drive.

1310: After a heavy lunch-time shower, the rain has eased and light covers are on but there has been no announcement yet as to when the afternoon session will begin.

Lunch: England 56-2 (Key 19, Vaughan 2)

1232: Collymore and Key exchange verbals but the burly batsman is unmoved as England take lunch 175 away from victory.

1227: Bravo over-pitches and Vaughan drives his first boundary through the covers, trebling his score in the process.

1218: Edwards digs one in short to Key and it goes over the head of the batsman and the reach of the keeper for four. Edwards over-steps off a shorter run and Key beats the mid-off fielder with his drive to bring up the 50.

1217: Bravo bowls a second maiden - an over displaying the variable bounce on offer.

1212: Vaughan gets a second life as his top-edged pull falls just out of reach of a diving Baugh, who has run to square leg.

1200: Edwards takes over again from Collins, who dismissed Strauss in a three-over spell that yielded just one run. Vaughan gets off the mark to his 14th delivery faced.

1154: Bravo, who took six wickets in the first innings, replaces Collymore. Key gains successive boundaries, clipping off his legs and driving a wider one through the covers.

1153: Vaughan is unable to get Collins away with the same extravagant swing though the air causing uncertainty.

1148: Key goes for a rash cut at Collymore, and misses. He finally pushes two just behind square on the off side.

1146: Collins appears less threatening against the right-handed Vaughan, bowling a maiden.

1137: Collymore again wraps Key up, beating the bat with a fullish ball that leaves him late.

1134: The swing is Strauss's undoing as he looks to pull into an empty leg-side field but gets it straight to mid on. England 27-2 (Strauss 12)

1129: Collins replaces his half-brother Edwards at the Statham End and gets a massive amount of away-swing.

1127: Collymore beats the bat and leaves Key with a guilty grin like a naughty schoolboy.

1121: Strauss reaches into the MCC textbook for his first boundary, driving down the ground. He square-cuts four more to leave Edwards shaking his head.

1118: New batsman Key gets off the mark fourth ball after a barrage of bouncers.

1114: There is no question about the result of a ball from Collymore that straightens a little to go through the gap between Trescothick's pad and bat, riiping out his off stump. England 15-1 (Trescothick 12).

1109: Edwards dishes one up outside off stump and Trescothick cuts him brutally. Strauss gets his first look at Edwards and survives an appeal. Umpire Taufel may have thought it pitched outside leg.

1108: Collymore completes another maiden to Strauss, although the batsman is unbothered.

1101: Trescothick drives into the covers, the ball slowing just before the rope and Mohammad making a good sliding stop. Applause greets every run - six in all off the over - as Strauss nudges Edwards on the leg side.

1057: Collymore shares the new ball, bowling a good over to Strauss full of length with the left-hander unable to get him away.

1050: Edwards begins from the Statham End, tying Trescothick in knots with his first few deliveries. The left-hander gets off a pair with a toe-end just past a leaping gully for four.

1047: Trescothick and Strauss emerge to an expectant reception from the Old Trafford crowd.

Innings break

1038: Harmison gets a little extra bounce and Edwards is ill-equipped, managing only a defensive glove in front of his face, the ball lobbing to Flintoff at slip.

1033: Giles bowls from the Statham End. Collympire helps him to fine leg for three. Umpire Taufel turns down and appeal for one going straight and hitting Edwards' back leg - just outside leg stump.

1032: Harmison bowls the last two balls of his over to new batsman Edwards.

1028: West Indies' last wicket pair emerge to face England's massed fielders.

1020: A sunny backdrop greets those dashing in to Old Trafford to see the first ball.
