Tykes must keep bowlers - Kruis

Deon Kruis
Kruis never played an international for South Africa

Yorkshire fast bowler Deon Kruis believes keeping hold of Matthew Hoggard and Ajmal Shahzad is key to the county's success.

Both have yet to agree new contract with Yorkshire.

Kruis, who is retiring at the end of the season, told BBC Radio Leeds: "I'm hoping they stay at the club, I think you need the experience.

"You need them here to lead the attack and then bring in a younger bowler or two to complement them."

The South African added: "You don't know how much you're going to see of Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid in the future."

Kruis is set to take up a new career as a cricket pundit after retiring from the game.

He is hoping to go out on a high note in the final County Championship match of the season against Hampshire which begins on Wednesday at Headingley.

"It would be nice to get a few wickets, probably my last goal that I really want to achieve is one more five-for.

"A win would be even better for Yorkshire and if I can contribute to that then so much the better."

The 35-year-old is hanging up his bat after a career spanning 16 years, the last five of which have been with Yorkshire.

Amongst the highlight of his time was his first season with Yorkshire, when he took 64 first class wickets.

"I came here as an unknown, didn't get any wickets in the first game, and then to have had the season I had was very special.

"To help get Yorkshire in the first division where we've managed to stay the last four years has been really good, but not really winning any silverware has been the major disappointment."
