Jim Troughton relishing Warwickshire T20 captaincy

Warwickshire's Jim Troughton says he feels privileged to be the new FP t20 captain and is full of admiration for Ian Westwood's decision to stand down.

Troughton took charge as the Bears ended Nottinghamshire's unbeaten run in the competition on Wednesday.

"It's a very strong decision from Ian and I'm in awe of him for doing it," Troughton told BBC WM.

"It's a privilege to captain Warwickshire and there were a few butterflies but the lads made it easy."

Westwood will continue to lead Warwickshire in the County Championship and one-day matches but has decided to hand the job over in the shortest form of the game.

"He just thought it would be better, in terms of the make up of the side, to bring someone in who gives and option with the ball and that's what Keith Barker did," Troughton said.

It captains itself at times and I've got some senior guys around me so I'm pretty confident

"Ian wants to be able to fight for his place like everyone else."

Warwickshire's five-wicket win at Edgbaston against the Outlaws was their third win of the tournament and took them up to second in the North Group.

"I'm really proud of the guys and what was pleasing was that it's been guys who've not done it in the competition so far - I was really impressed with Ricky Clarke," Troughton said.

Warwickshire go to New Road to take on local rivals Worcestershire in their next game on Friday and new skipper Troughton is looking for another winning performance from his side.

"The guys make it very easy. Everyone's a leader in Twenty20 because it's so quick and frenetic," Troughton added.

"It captains itself at times and I've got some senior guys around me so I'm pretty confident."
