Sussex captain Michael Yardy has signed a two-year contract extension at Hove. Yardy, 31, returned home early from the World Cup with England earlier this year after suffering from depression. He said: "Sussex have shown a lot of understanding and patience with me over the last year and I am very focused and determined to produce my best cricket over the next few years. "I'm proud to be captain and lead a talented and committed squad who are hungry for success." The all-rounder, who took over the captaincy in 2009, will remain at the county until the end of the summer of 2014. He returned to action in May but took a second break from the game to aid his recovery from illness. Sussex's professional cricket manager Mark Robinson said: "Michael is such an important player for us in all forms of the game and it's great news that he has further committed himself to us as we look to take the club forward into the future." Yardy made his first-class debut for Sussex in 2000 and has scored over 8,000 runs in his 139 first-class matches.
