Sussex batsman Chris Nash has agreed a new three-year deal to keep him at the club until 2012.

The 26-year-old right hander, who made his debut for the side in 2002, scored 216 runs in last season's Twenty20 competition at an average of 43.20.

Nash said: "I am delighted to sign an extension which keeps me at Sussex.

"2010 is a huge season for us as we look to continue our one-day success, but also bounce back immediately in the Championship," he added.

"2009 was a very successful year in one-day cricket for Sussex and also personally, but we were bitterly disappointed to be relegated in the Championship," Nash said.

The batsman's performances last season have already been rewarded with a trip to South Africa for the National Performance Programmes, which could lead to selection for the England Lions' Christmas tour.

"Having been involved with the EPP over the past few weeks, I am really excited about the coming month in South Africa and will return to Sussex in the new year in great shape for next season, where we can put into practise all that we have learnt from last season and also our experiences in the Champions League in India."

Sussex skipper, Mike Yardy, added: "Chris has performed very well this year.

"He's just now coming of age as a cricketer, which is why it is good that his work has been recognised by being selected in the performance squads.

"He's a great asset to the club and an important part of our future," Yardy said.
