County champions Sussex have signed West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Smith on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The 25-year-old from Barbados qualifies for Sussex as a Kolpak player and originally joined the county for their Twenty 20 cup campaign only.

But Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson said he would play in all cricket from 2009, adding: "He's fitted into the dressing-room really well.

"He hits a long ball, bowls well and is one of the best fielders in the world."
