Sussex plan Rashid match
Rashid drowned attempting to save his brother
Sussex will host a match on 13 September in memory of spinner Umer Rashid and brother Burhan, who died during the club's pre-season camp on the Caribbean island of Grenada.
Rashid drowned while trying to save his younger brother, while swimming at a local tourist spot. The match will bring together a Sussex XI and an Angus Fraser Invitation XI, as Rashid began his career with Middlesex. Players have yet to be confirmed.
"We want to celebrate the lives of Umer and Burhan and can think of no better way of doing so than by playing cricket," said a Sussex statement. "The emphasis of this evening is seeing the positive, remembering an integral member of the Sussex squad." Entrance will be through programme only, on sale from 5 August, with funds raised going towards a new electronic scoreboard to be named after Rashid and annual Umer Rashid spin clinics for youngsters. Rashid's death came shortly after Surrey's Ben Hollioake was killed in a car crash in Australia. The two sides paid tribute to their former team-mates when they met in the County Championship early in the season. A memorial service for Hollioake takes place at Southwark Cathedral on Monday, 15 July.
