Surrey cricket manager Chris Adams extends his deal

Surrey cricket manager Chris Adams has signed a new deal which will keep him at The Oval until 2013.

The ex-Sussex captain, who joined Surrey in 2008 on a three-year deal, has got his team off to a good start.

Surrey, unbeaten in the CB40, have lost just once in the County Championship this season.

"I'm delighted that the club have recognised all my effort and commitment to Surrey CCC," Adams told the club's official website.

Chief executive Richard Gould added: "We want to be able to compete in all formats of domestic cricket, develop quality Surrey players through our youth systems, and provide a steady stream of international class players for England.

"Chris has taken up this challenge and is working hard to deliver success in all areas," he continued.

With my role broadening and my remit widening I look forward to the challenges ahead

After a poor season in 2009, Surrey made many changes to their squad last year, luring three of England's winter tourists Steven Davies and Chris Tremlett to The Oval, as well as the late summer recruitment of Kevin Pietersen.

They were joined over the winter by former Glamorgan batsman Tom Maynard and ex-Somerset all-rounder Zander de Bruyn, while a number of talented youngsters, including Jason Roy - who recently scored his maiden first-class century - and 19-year-old Matthew Dunn have started to make their mark this season.

But Adams admits that the process has not been straightforward.

"The task of completely overhauling the playing squad, recruiting wisely and productively as well as creating a pathway for our best young talent to develop has proved one of the toughest but enjoyable challenges of my career," said Adams.

"With my role broadening and my remit widening I look forward to the challenges ahead."
