Surrey batsman Scott Newman has revealed Mark Ramprakash used his bat to score his 100th first-class century against Yorkshire on Saturday.

The 38-year-old became the 25th player to score 100 centuries.

Newman told BBC London 94.9: "He's been happy with his bats but I had a bat that he really liked and he started using it the first innings.

"He decided he'd use it in the morning and got there and I realised I'll never see that bat again."

Ramprakash has scored more than 30,000 runs in a career, which saw him make his first-class debut in 1987.

Newman added: "I think he'll be using that for the end of the year as well because it's a freakish bat.

"It sounds a bit boring but we're really into our bats and we always tinker around with handles together and when I got that bat he kind of liked it and I was reluctant to let it go.

"It went well for him. I don't think I'll be seeing it because it's going to be auctioned off somewhere as well. Hopefully he'll score a few more runs with it. I was just really pleased for him, to finally get to the 100th hundred, it doesn't happen often."
