Surrey enjoyed useful batting practice as they amassed 375-4 on day one against Durham UCCE at The Oval.
Mark Butcher opted to bat and saw Scott Newman hammer 89 off 96 balls, while former England batsman Mark Ramprakash caressed nine boundaries in his 67.
Butcher himself hit a bright 47 before Ali Brown and James Benning really put the flagging students to the sword.
Brown crashed two sixes and 11 fours in his 73 while Benning hit seven fours and a six in his 39 off only 29 balls.
