Bicknell breaks wrist
Bicknell in pain after damaging his wrist
Surrey seam bowler Martin Bicknell faces a lengthy lay-off after breaking a bone in his right wrist during a one-day game.
Bicknell fell in his follow through while bowling against Sussex on Sunday and was taken to hospital for an x-ray.
Surrey coach Keith Medlycott told BBC Sport Online that a fracture of the scaphoid bone had been revealed, and Bicknell was likely to be out of action "for a minimum of six weeks". It is a big blow to the team as 33-year-old Bicknell is their senior new ball bowler, having taken more than 1,300 wickets in first-class and one-day cricket since his debut in 1986. "It's a professional sport and these things happen. We'll just have to dig deep and carry on," said Medlycott. With Alex Tudor on England duty, James Ormond and Ed Giddins will lead Surrey's attack in Bicknell's absence. Giddins, in particular, is in excellent form at present and took five for 20 against Sussex.
