Somerset announce 75,000 profit for 2010

County Championship runners-up Somerset made a pre-tax profit of £75,000 for the year ending September 2010.

Despite having the third highest wage bill in county cricket, Somerset managed to stay in the black through impressive performances on the field.

Finishing runners-up in the T20 and CB40, as well as the Championship, helped attract good crowds to Taunton.

"Our successes on the pitch have helped to bring in additional numbers," said chief executive Richard Gould.

"A lot of the revenue has actually come from members and spectators but also our new facilities for conferences and events are really taking off.

"In sport, it's very easy to over extend yourselves in the pursuit of success. We're just glad we've managed to keep on a stable financial footing."

Last year the club made a post-tax profit of just £5,000 and this year's final figure is just over £69,000.

"It's not a huge amount on a turnover of five million," Gould told BBC Somerset.

"But we're not a profit-making organisation and it's always better to record a surplus rather than a deficit."
