Pollard eyes future Somerset return

Somerset all-rounder Kieron Pollard is aiming to make an impression on FP t20 finals day and join the list of West Indian greats to turn out for the club.

Somerset lost in last year's final to Sussex so Pollard hopes they will go one better this time.

"Saturday will be one of the biggest games for me getting the opportunity to play a final in the county arena," Pollard told BBC Points West.

"Hopefully we can go there and go one step further."

Back in the 1980s Viv Richards and Joel Garner graced the County Ground in Taunton and they were followed by Richie Richardson in the 1990s.

"It's very important to keep up the West Indian tradition - those guys were absolute legends in their day," said Pollard.

It's great that Kieron Pollard is back for the final. He's in great shape and is looking to make a difference in these two games

Somerset chief executive Richard Gould

"To get to play where those guys played is absolutely fantastic so it's just a question of me trying to emulate that."

Pollard took no time to settle into the Somerset T20 side smashing 89 not out on his debut and taking three wickets.

Since then he has become the second-highest wicket taker in the competition with 28 and is the leading six-hitter with 27 to date.

The 23-year-old has helped Somerset top their group and beat most of their opponents with ease.

Somerset's chief executive Richard Gould said: "It's great that Kieron Pollard is back for the final. He's in great shape and is looking to make a difference in these two games.

"This year we have been exceptional in Twenty20 where as last year we kind of scraped through so I think there is a high level of expectation on us this year.

"Notts in the semi-final is some people's dream final so it's going to be tough for us," he added.

And Pollard is equally respectful of their opponents who welcome back internationals Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann to their team.

"They have a very good bowling attack, a lot of their guys have played for England. The five of them are top-class bowlers," said Pollard.

Gould still looking to strengthen

"It'll be a tough challenge for us but I think we're up for that challenge.

"You can play for England, for the West Indies or for South Africa but you've still got to go out there and put bat on ball."

Last season Somerset were the nearly men in more than one competition and Gould is looking for them to take home some silverware this time round.

They are currently top of CB 40 Group A and in second place in the County Championship.

"This is a special season for Somerset and the second in a row where every game has counted," Gould added

"We're just focussed on winning trophies and if we do that on Saturday it could be the first of three this year."
