Scotland lost the first of two One Day Internationals with Canada by six wickets at Mannofield Park in Aberdeen. The Scots posted 286 for 4, with openers Gavin Hamilton and Fraser Watts both making scores of over 100. However, the Canadians surpassed that total with eight balls to spare thanks to impressive showings from Sandeep Jyoti and Ashif Bagai. Jyoti made 117 from 121 balls, while captain Bagai exploited some poor bowling to reach 92 not out. The teams will meet again at the same venue on Wednesday, with an inexperienced Scotland side looking to improve on a dismal showing in the field. Captain Hamilton (119) and Watts (101) had given the home side a perfect start with a record opening stand at ODI level of 203. But the bowlers could not support their effort and the visitors piled on the runs with ease. At the weekend, Scotland opened their campaign in the ICC Intercontinental Cup with a 29-run victory over Canada, with a day to spare.
