Samit Patel back in England frame, say Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel could soon return to England duty, despite missing out on a World Cup call-up.

The spinner was touted as a possible replacement for Michael Yardy, who has flown home suffering from depression.

And although Yorkshire's Adil Rashid got the nod, Notts coach Wayne Noon says Patel has answered questions about his weight and is ready to play.

"His fitness levels have got up to scratch so he could be in contention," Noon told BBC Radio Nottingham.

The England hierarchy have previously warned Patel about his fitness.

And although he has vowed to lose weight, he has failed to convince the selectors that he has done enough.

Noon added: "His fitness and his cricket has been an ongoing interest from Andy Flower [England coach] so it's not just a one off. They have been monitoring Samit all winter."
