Shreck first signed for Nottinghamshire in 2003

Nottinghamshire fast bowler Charlie Shreck has signed a new two-year contract tying him to Trent Bridge until the end of the 2012 season. Shreck, 32, who played just five games in Notts' 2010 County Championship win, again faces competition for a place. But Notts director of cricket Mick Newell reckons that he can recapture the form that has twice seen him voted the county's player of the year. "Charlie has made good progress in the off-season," said Newell. "We intend to find some overseas cricket in the new year to help him achieve match fitness. "It is very important that we maintain a strong group of quick bowlers and Charlie is very much part of that. "His one-day appearances will be limited because our intention is to keep him fresh for Championship matches, in which he has made big contributions in the past." Truro-born former Cornwall paceman Shreck, whose existing contract was set to run out, had reportedly been attracting interest from Durham and Somerset. Shreck, who has bagged 259 first-class wickets in 73 matches for Nottinghamshire, spent time last summer building up his match fitness in club cricket with North Staffs & South Cheshire side Sandyford.
