Nottinghamshire have signed Somerset bowler Ben Phillips on a two-year deal.

The seamer took 29 wickets in 11 County Championship games last term and has also played for Northants and Kent in a 15-year first-class career.

Phillips, 36, said: "I'm delighted to join a team that will be in the hunt for trophies and I see this as a perfect opportunity for me."

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Ben has a solid reputation and can play a big part next season."

Newell, who guided Notts to the County Championship title last season, continued: "It was very important that we recruited a bowler who can come into the side and bowl long spells witch accuracy and control and Ben is capable of doing that."

Phillips added: "Mick didn't have to sell the club to me because I'm well aware that there are a lot of quality players here.

"I wasn't actively looking for a move but it was made clear that my opportunities might be limited given the signings that Somerset had made and I jumped at the chance to join Nottinghamshire."

Somerset, who finished as runners-up in all three domestic competitions last season, recently signed pace bowlers Steve Kirby and Gemaal Hussain from neighbours Gloucestershire.
