I am fitter than ever - Patel

Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel says he still harbours ambitions of a return to international cricket.

The 25-year-old has 11 one-day caps but has not played for England for a year after being dropped due to his fitness.

Patel told BBC East Midlands Today: "I've got fitter and lost weight. I feel the fittest I've been.

"I want to play all forms of cricket for England, that's still my aim. If it takes longer than I expect then so be it, but I'm not finished with it yet."

He added: "My performances for Nottinghamshire have got to count. They've got to be match-winning performances because that's the only way for me to get back into that team.

"It might have shown in my performances last year but it's how you move on from that and I can't wait for the season to start."
