Northants announce a small loss of 27,439 last year

Northants Cricket has announced a pre-tax loss of £27,439 in its accounts for the last financial year.

The Wantage Road-based club made a surplus of nearly £3,000 in 2009.

"We've seen a 6% increase in turnover and we're satisfied with that given the economic climate," said chief executive Mark Tagg.

"We're continuing the trend that has seen increased investment in professional cricket and the Northants Academy since 2005."

Tagg added: "This is now reaping its rewards with excellence in coaching standards and player development.

"Investment has also been evident off the playing area with state-of-the-art floodlights and other ground improvements making the County Ground one of the most comfortable and friendliest venues.

"It's still disappointing to post a small deficit for the year and we're continuing to seek new and alternative ways to generate profit."

The Northants squad is currently in South Africa on the club's first pre-season tour since 2002 and begins its domestic campaign with a Championship visit to Surrey on 8 April.
