Botha was bought by Rajasthan Royals for this year's IPL
South Africa spinner Johan Botha has been named Northants' second overseas player for the 2011 FP t20 campaign.
The 28-year-old has taken 27 wickets in 26 Twenty20 matches for his country with his right-arm off-spin.
The limited overs specialist has hit 517 runs and taken 65 wickets across 69 one day internationals.
"Nicky Boje told me what a wonderful set-up there is at Northants and how great the people are," said the Rajasthan Royals and Warriors player.
"I can't wait to play there and make a contribution to the team."
Northants head coach David Capel added: "I'm delighted we have been successful in recruiting Johan as a quality spin bowling all-rounder for our 2011 T20 campaign.
"It is well recognised the level of impact an experienced spinner can have on a T20 match, you just have to look at what Nicky Boje did for us.
"This is the right signing for the club and Johan will be a major asset to us through his ultra competitiveness, skill sets and experience."
In February 2006 Botha was
suspended from bowling
after his action was deemed to be illegal.
cleared to play
for his country again 10 months later after restructuring his action.
And in 2009 the International Cricket Council
banned his doosra delivery
because of excessive straightening in his bowling arm.
Botha has five South Africa Test caps to his name, making his debut in a defeat by Australia in Sydney five years ago.
He joins Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas as Northants' overseas players for the T20 this year.
