Indian Board cancel Northants' Virender Sehwag signing
Sehwag has played 76 Tests and 221 one-day internationals
Northants will be without India international batsman Virender Sehwag in their Twenty20 line-up this season.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have rescinded the 'no objection certificate' that allowed Sehwag to play for the county.
Northants chief executive Mark Tagg told BBC Radio Northampton: "It's extremely disappointing for us.
"It's annoying because you don't have a chance every year to have the world's best batsman on your books."
Tagg said the BCCI had revoked the certificate (NOC) for all Indian-contracted players.
A standard clause in the certificate allows countries to call on their players if selected. Sehwag is now required for the the triangular tournament in Zimbabwe and the Asia Cup.
Shashank Manohar, president of the BCCI, said: "We have had to withdraw the no-objection certificate for Virender Sehwag because of our international commitments in Sri Lanka in June.
"We are firstly playing in the Asia Cup and then in a triangular tournament along with Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
"The television contract for this was only concluded eight days ago. I phoned [England and Wales Cricket Board chairman] Giles Clarke to explain the situation and he was fine about it."
Somerset do not believe Murali Kartik will be affected, because he has not been named in any Indian international squad this summer.
Surrey signing Piyush Chawla has been named in India's World Twenty20 squad. Surrey said they had not been contacted by the BCCI, and therefore had no reason to believe Chawla's availability would be affected.
"We'd hoped that having waited for the NOC in the first place, all those issues would have been dealt with," said Tagg.
"Virender himself was frustrated, he wasn't aware of the news.
"It's disappointing not just for Northants Cricket and Virender, but mostly for the supporters."
