Sussex all-rounder Ollie Rayner joins Middlesex on loan

Sussex all-rounder Ollie Rayner will be joining Middlesex on loan for the start of the season until mid-May.

The 25-year-old will meet up with the side for pre-season training after he completes an MCC tour of Namibia.

Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "He is a talented young cricketer with an excellent work ethic who is improving with each season."

The 6ft 5in off-spinner is available for Middlesex's first four County Championship and five CB40 matches.

Fraser added: "Ollie will be a welcome addition to Middlesex's cricket staff for the start of the 2011 season.

This should enhance his development and be beneficial for both him and the club

Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson

"In 2010 his 18 first-class wickets cost him 22 runs each. He is capable with the bat - he averaged 32 in 2010 - and is an excellent fielder, especially at slip.

"The departure of Shaun Udal left us needing to strengthen our spin bowling resources and we would like to thank Sussex CCC for allowing Rayner to join up with us."

The Germany-born player has made 38 first-class appearances for Sussex since making his debut in 2006, and Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson said the loan spell would be a positive move.

"It's a good opportunity for Ollie to play some first-team cricket at a time of the year when the likelihood of playing two spinners is very slim," added Robinson.

"This should enhance his development and be beneficial for both him and the club on his return."
