Ireland batsman Paul Stirling has signed for county side Middlesex in a three-year deal.

The 19-year-old is centrally contracted with Ireland and will be unavailable for Middlesex when required for international duty.

Stirling will join fellow Irish-born batsman Eoin Morgan at Lords.

"We're happy that representing Ireland is his priority for the time being," said Angus Fraser, Middlesex director of cricket.

He added: "Paul has been involved with the Middlesex youth sides and Second XI and we are delighted that he has now signed a full time contract for the club.

"His batting for Ireland in 2009 highlighted his potential."

Stirling has represented Ireland at every international level from under 13s to under 23s and made his full international debut for Ireland in March last year.

He highlighted his potential in the Friends Provident Trophy last season with a top score of 80 against Leicestershire.
