Middlesex opener Smith dies at 62
Former Middlesex opening batsman Mike Smith has died at the age of 62 after suffering a heart attack.

Smith played five limited-overs internationals in the 1970s and spent 22 seasons on the staff at Lord's.

He formed a successful opening partnership with Mike Brearley at domestic level and in 1994 became the official scorer for Middlesex.

In his entire first-class career he chalked up 19,814 runs with 40 centuries at an average of 31.65.

A statement on the Middlesex website said: "It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Mike Smith."
