Boon's side finished seventh in the Pro40 Second Division last season

Leicestershire head coach Tim Boon has said he is excited about his team's chances of clinching a good league position in the final season of Pro40. Boon's side began their campaign with a rain-shortened game against Northants, which ended as a no-result on Sunday. Boon told BBC Radio Leicester: "The way the team is at the moment we've got a really exciting feel. "The guys are sharp in the field and aggressive with the bat. I'd like to think we'll do really well." Sunday's match at Wantage Road was initially reduced a 30-over game as rain affected proceedings throughout.

I think we've got a lot of things to take forward to the next game

Leicestershire made 175-5 as James Allenby and Josh Cobb both top-scored with 43, with Cobb scoring at a run a ball. Northants' reply was curtailed in the fifth over when heavy rain fell again, with the visitors on 37-1. Boon added: "We've got a good middle-order and a decent batting line-up. "We lost a couple of wickets just after the break which were crucial which is where Duckworth/Lewis comes in. "It's not a bad result for us really with the rain going around and a wet ball. I think we've got a lot of things to take forward to the next game."
