Sutton hails Flintoff performance

Flintoff is likely to miss out on England's opening test against South Africa

Lancashire wicketkeeper Luke Sutton believes it will not be too long before England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff returns to top form.

Flintoff, who missed six weeks with a side strain, was unbeaten on 62 as Lancashire beat Sussex by eight wickets in the County Championship.

"He just makes it look effortless," Sutton told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"He bowls with pace and aggression. You could probably count on two fingers the number of bad balls he bowls."

Flintoff failed to get among the wickets at Hove, but that is not a worry to Sutton.

It's a no-brainer for me. I would pick him every single time

"He might want to get some overs under his belt to get his stamina up but he should have got wickets. He was unlucky because the pitch was so slow so you saw less dramatic deliveries.

"It was excellent for Fred to get some time out in the middle. Stuart (Law - Lancashire captain) gave him the opportunity to bat up higher and he duly accepted it.

"I think that innings will do him the world of good and I would pick him for the First Test against South Africa.

"It's a no-brainer for me. I would pick him every single time, although my gut feeling is they won't."

"If you're going into a big test series at Lord's against one of the best test playing nations in the world you need your big boys with you to stand up against them, and you certainly need Freddie Flintoff in that side."
