Kent dismiss Van Jaarsveld rumour

Martin van Jaarsveld
Van Jaarsveld helped get Kent to two one-day finals this season

Kent chief executive Paul Millman has denied batsman Martin van Jaarsveld could leave the club for Lancashire.

The 34-year-old is the Professional Cricketers' Association's player of the year after hitting more than 1,000 County Championship runs in 2008.

Kent chief executive Paul Millman told the BBC: "Martin has 12 months remaining on his contract and will be a Kent player next season."

The club hope to renegotiate a new contract with van Jaarsveld next year.

Despite the club's relegation from Division One of the Championship, van Jaarsveld played a big part in getting them to two one-day finals this season.

He also played in nine Test matches for his native South Africa, before ending his international career to join Kent in 2005 as a Kolpak player.

Kolpak players are players from countries with associate trade agreements with the European Union - such as South Africa and many of the West Indies countries - who are allowed to be registered for county cricket without being classed as overseas players.
