Neil McKenzie agrees new Hampshire contract

Former South African Test batsman Neil McKenzie says he has agreed a new deal with Hampshire for next season.

The 34-year-old played his final game of the season for Hampshire on Saturday before heading off to play for Highveld Lions in the Champions League Twenty20.

He told BBC Radio Solent: "I'm looking to sign the contract before I leave. I've just got to give it to someone.

"But I will definitely be coming back to Hampshire. I'm looking forward to next year."

McKenzie leaves The Rose Bowl with Hampshire still battling for survival in Division One of the County Championship.

But having helped the county win the Friends Provident t20, McKenzie is looking forward to a prosperous second season on the south coast.

"I've had a really good time here," he said. "The beginning of the season was tough but the Twenty20 win and having the trophy in the cabinet was really good for the boys.

"We've just got to stay up now and hopefully next year we can stay injury free and compete for all three trophies."
