Carberry had looked set for a fifth Championship century in six matches

Hampshire's England Lions batsman Michael Carberry has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury. The in-form opener suffered a broken finger while batting on the first day of Hampshire's County Championship game with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Hampshire manager Giles White told BBC Radio Solent: "He got a ball that bounced a bit, and hit him on the end of his finger. "It's a bad break, and he'll need an operation in the next few days." Carberry has hit a career-best 1,251 first-class runs this season at an average of 69.50, with only Somerset's Marcus Trescothick having scored more. The last 926 runs, including 86 in Hampshire's current match when he was just 14 from a fifth century in six matches, have come inside a golden two months at an average of 115.75. That form earned the 28-year-old Londoner a call-up to represent England Lions in the two-day one-innings match defeat against the touring Australians at Canterbury last week.
