Udal to miss opener
![]() Captain Robin Smith and Johnson are both fit
Spinner Shaun Udal will miss Hampshire's opening match of the Division Two championship starting on Friday.
The veteran has a hairline fracture in a finger on his bowling hand and will not feature agaisnt Warwickshire. The former vice-captain hopes to return in time for the opening Benson and Hedges cup group match at Kent on 1 May. Also missing from the squad of 13 are pace bowler Simon Francis and batsman Lawrence Prittipaul. Francis has a back injury and Prittipaul aggravated a shoulder injury on the tour of South Africa. Derek Kenway is included, despite being omitted from the tour to South Africa for failing to reach the required fitess levels. Promising young spinner James Hamblin is in the squad to cover the absence of Udal and Neil Johnson is in line for his Hampshire debut.
