Gloucestershire have signed New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson as their second overseas player for 2011.

The 20-year-old, who made a century on his Test debut, is currently with the Kiwis at the World Cup.

"He's been playing first class cricket since he was 17," coach John Bracewell told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"He needs to build up resilience, but the only place you can simulate that apart from on the international circuit is actually in England."

Williamson, who will be joined by Muttiah Muralitharan for the FPt20, has so far played five Test matches.

He hit 131 on his Test debut in November against India in Ahmedabad.

"We may not get the pick of the crop," added Bracewell. "But no one is getting the pick of the crop over here any more because the Indian Premier League are getting that.

"I think that the relationship between our young guys and a young overseas player who has an incredible work ethic will be a great advantage to us.

"He is the type of player from the Mike Hussey mould, driven to succeed through hard work."
