Gloucestershire sign wicketkeeper Richard Coughtrie

Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire have signed academy wicketkeeper Richard Coughtrie on a two-year contract.

The 22-year-old, who is currently studying at university, will start training with the squad on a full-time basis in January.

"He has shown real progress with both bat and gloves under the tutelage of Jack Russell," said Gloucestershire's director of cricket John Bracewell.

"We expect a long and successful career with us."

Coughtrie played regularly for Gloucestershire second XI last season, scoring several half-centuries in both Trophy and second XI Championship matches.

Wicketkeeping coach Jack Russell added: "Richard possesses a wonderful mixture of natural talent and strong dedication.

"His hard work over the last couple of years has been rewarded, and knowing Richard he will now push his game forward to try and establish himself on the first-class stage."

The signing of Coughtrie follows on from those of academy trio Graeme McCarter, Michael Beard and Craig Miles, who have all been handed contracts for 2011.
