Discord follows Glamorgan changes

Glamorgan

A Glamorgan protest group met on Monday in Cardiff to attempt to rally support for a vote of no confidence in chairman Paul Russell and the county committee.

The move follows recent changes and resignations after a strategic review.

Russell and vice-chairman Nigel Roberts made surprise appearances at the meeting but were only there to listen.

The protest group need 300 members' signatures to force an Extraordinary General Meeting. As of Monday it is believed that they had around 70.

A planned Glamorgan committee meeting on Tuesday did not go ahead and has been rearranged for next week.

The latest events conclude a dramatic month at the Swalec Stadium that has seen batsman Jamie Dalrymple, director of cricket Matthew Maynard and president Peter Walker quit the club.

Dalrymple had been replaced as captain by South African Alviro Petersen, while Maynard's role was superseded by Colin Metson as the new head of coaching.

In an open letter to members, Glamorgan chief executive Alan Hamer said a strategic change was necessary.

The Glamorgan chief pointed to a lack of success on the field as the reason for the overhaul and claimed "the strategic changes would have been implemented" even if the Welsh county had gained promotion to Division One of the County Championship.
