Kevin Pietersen made an instant impact on his Surrey debut

Director of cricket Matthew Maynard says Glamorgan have plans in place to stop Kevin Pietersen from wrecking a potential promotion party. Glamorgan will go up if they beat Surrey at the Oval in their penultimate Championship match and Worcestershire and Gloucestershire both lose. But struggling Surrey have recently recruited former England captain and "destructive batsman" Pietersen. "Kevin is a very dangerous player and a class player," said Maynard. Pietersen hit the headlines last week for an outburst on Twitter after he was left out of England's one-day squad for the series against Pakistan - and was subsequently fined for it. It came in the same week that the 30-year-old joined Surrey on loan from Hampshire and he marked his arrival with 116 runs from 105 balls in Saturday's CB40 draw with Sussex. "He got 100 the other day which will obviously help him settle into the Surrey dressing room," added Maynard. "But we've got our plans to dismiss him. If our bowlers can get the balls in the right areas then I'm sure they will do that. "He can get away as well and if he gets in, he can be a very destructive batsman and take the game away from a side - he's done that at international level. "He's a quality performer and he'll obviously strengthen any side... but Surrey aren't about one man, they are a strong side and we will have to perform well over four days if we're to get the right result." Glamorgan have been boosted by the return of captain Jamie Dalrymple, who missed the draw with Sussex after breaking his thumb against Middlesex. Glamorgan keep their options open on whether to field an extra front-line spinner or a mainly seam attack. The two teams drew at the Swalec Stadium earlier this season. Last year Glamorgan ran up 702 for 8 at the Oval, with four batsmen hitting centuries. Glamorgan are 22 points clear of third-placed Worcestershire after Gloucestershire wasted their game in hand, crashing to a two-day defeat on a bowler-friendly pitch at home to Derbyshire. "The guys have put a lot of hard work in this season... and it will be very rewarding for them to get promotion," said Maynard. "Anything less than promotion this year will be very disappointing. It's very important that we are playing First Division cricket next year."
Glamorgan squad: GP Rees, MJ Cosgrove, WD Bragg, TL Maynard, BJ Wright, JWM Dalrymple (capt), J Allenby, MA Wallace (wkt), JAR Harris, RDB Croft, DA Cosker, DS Harrison, HT Waters, WT Owen.
