Ex-Glamorgan player Holmes dies

Glamorgan cricket

Former Glamorgan all-rounder Geoff Holmes has died suddenly aged 50.

The Welsh county's player of the year in 1988 played 209 first-class matches, averaging 28.49 runs, for Glamorgan during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Holmes was a Cricket Board of Wales director and a Glamorgan statement read: "Geoff was a dedicated servant of cricket in Wales and will be missed.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Geoff's wife Christine, his children, family and friends at this sad time."
