We can turn year round - Wallace

Mark Wallace believes the Pro40 League win over Surrey could be a spur to turn Glamorgan's season round.

The wicket-keeper scored his first one-day 50 and shared in a 109-run partnership with Tom Maynard.

The duo eased Glamorgan towards a comprehensive 78-run victory - their first 40-over success for two seasons.

"I think it's a valuable result. The season has pretty much at the halfway stage so hopefully we can take it on,'' said Wallace.

"We have been scrapping a bit but to get a result early on in a competition, and such a good result, is great.

"We hammered them really, which is great for us to get a big result against someone like Surrey.

"We have been scrapping a bit this season.

"Tom will take some confidence from this because I certainly will and I'm sure the bowlers will.

"We go to Southend next week to play Essex in the LV County Championship and hopefully we can take it on from there."

Wallace was full of praise for the performance of 19-year-old Tom Maynard, son of Glamorgan's cricket manager Matthew.

"Tom played excellently,'' added Wallace.

"He showed a lot of people how good he is. He has got a lot of talent and I think there's a lot more to come from him."

On his maiden half-century Wallace said: "It was a bit of a monkey off my back and hopefully I can go on from there."

Tom Maynard hopes his performance can help his bid to play more first team cricket.

"For me and Mark to really dig in and get us out of it was a special moment for me," said Maynard.

"I want to play as high a standard of cricket and to make a score early doors has given me a platform to go on further in this competition.

"I'm really happy I have come in and taken my opportunity.

"It's nice to get off to a winning start. We have got a great one-day team and I hope we can really succeed in this competition.''
