Kent the priority says Di Venuto

Durham batsman Michael Di Venuto has urged his team-mates to stay focused on their own game regardless of results elsewhere in the County Championship.

The Wearsiders are chasing Notts for the Division One title but Di Venuto is anxious to finish off Kent before they harbour about any title aspirations.

"If we start looking too far ahead of ourselves then this game might turn on its head," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"We've got to do the right things here and see what's happening on Saturday."

The Tasmanian hit a thrilling 90 in day two of the match with Kent at Canterbury and believes Durham can take advantage of the momentum built up from Thursday's play.

"We've just got to get as many runs as we can in the first innings," he said.

"The wicket is turning and showing signs of breaking up so it could be tough chasing any sort of target in our second innings.

"We've got to get as big a lead as possible and then bowl really well in the second dig."
