Durham's new Twenty20 specialist Albie Morkel has told fans he is looking forward to making his presence felt during his spell on Wearside.

"I've got a reputation for hitting the ball quite far which puts pressure on me," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"There's expectation for me to hit the ball out of the ground all the time and it's nice to be known for that.

"It puts pressure on me, but I like that so for me to come here and show people what I can do is very exciting."

Morkel was part of the recent Indian Premier League, playing for Chennai Super Kings alongside world class cricketers such as Sri Lankan spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan and Australian batsman Matthew Hayden.

It was an experience he enjoyed but believes the atmosphere at Twenty20 games will create a similar buzz.

"You can't prepare for anything that happens in India, the people there are so fanatical about cricket and at the games you get up to 100,000 people," he said.

"I think it's like that in England now, you get sold out grounds, it's the same vibe and same iintensity, I think Twenty20 is here to stay."

Morkel has smashed 871 runs from 55 matches in Twenty20, with 69 fours and 45 sixes.

He is joined at the Riverside for the limited overs games by Proteas team-mate Shaun Pollock, another of the IPLs star names.
