Srinath will come in instead of Martin Love
Durham have drafted in Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath as cover for Australia's Martin Love.
Srinath agreed a move to the Riverside after Love was selected for the Australian touring party to the West Indies.
Australia will leave on 31 March until mid-May and Srinath will stand in during that time.
Love scored 1,120 first-class runs at an average of 65.88 last season and first team coach Martyn Moxon initially tried to find a straight batting replacement before turning to Srinath.
But a spokesman for the county told the BBC Sport website: "Martyn was keen to bring in batting cover but there just wasn't an appropriate person to fill that role for such a short period.
"Martyn was also concerned over the fitness of fast bowler Steve Harmison, in case he was not fully fit for the start of the season."
Srinath has been flourishing in the twilight of his international career at the World Cup, having taken 15 wickets to date.
At Test level he has clinched 236 wickets at an average of 30.49 and has 314 wickets under his belt at one-day international level at 27.86.
