Derbyshire have signed New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill as their second overseas player for the 2011 season.
The 24-year-old will take over from new Australia Test batsman Usman Khawaja for the second half of the County Championship and CB40 campaigns.
And Guptill will play alongside Khawaja in the Friends Provident t20 campaign.
Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris told BBC Radio Derby: "We were looking for a batter to play all forms of the game. He is the right sort of player."
Guptill, who made his Test debut in 2009, has established himself in both the one-day team and Test side, making a combined total of 77 international appearances.
He has operated both in the middle order and as an opener for the Black Caps and bowls occasional off-spin.
"His stats are good in terms of international cricket," added Morris. "All the reports are that he is a really good kid. Hopefully he will come in and do a good job for us.
"Martin is the right age. I think he will play well in English conditions and will fit in well here."
