Rogers cuts short mid-season rest

Derbyshire overseas player Chris Rogers is cutting short his mid-season break to help their quest for glory in 2008.

He had been due to have up to six weeks off after playing a full Australian season but will now return for the game with Worcestershire starting on 6 June.

Mahela Jayawardene had been poised to fill in for him but that fell through because of international commitments.

"It was always planned he'd have a break. We're delighted it'll be a short one," said Head of Cricket John Morris.

"He has been in excellent form this season and we want to ensure he is firing on all cylinders at the business end of the summer.

"He will miss the opening stages of the Twenty20 Cup but could play a part later on, it will depend on how we are performing in the competition and how Chris is feeling."

Rogers has averaged above 40 in both first-class and limited-overs cricket so far this season.
