Matthew Hoggard claimed the third hat-trick of his career as Leicestershire earned a sizeable first-innings lead on day two against Glamorgan.

After the Foxes were finished off for 238, Claude Henderson left unbeaten on 80, Hoggard wrecked Glamorgan's top order to leave them 38-3.

And although new captain Alviro Petersen hit 91 they never recovered as they were skittled out for 146.

Glamorgan reduced Leicestershire to 78-5 by the close, a lead of 170.

Hoggard's hat-trick was the first by a Leicestershire player since Javagal Srinath performed the feat against Surrey at The Oval in 2002 and the first at Grace Road since Winston Benjamin managed it against Australia in 1989.

It started by Hoggard having Gareth Rees caught behind off the fifth ball of his sixth over of the morning, before trapping Will Bragg leg before off the next delivery and having Michael Powell caught at slip off the first ball of his next over.

But Leicestershire fared little better with the bat as Graham Wagg and Dean Cosker both struck twice to leave the home side 43-5 before Will Jefferson (48 not out) guided them to the close.
