COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, The Rose Bowl: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Hampshire 218, Warwickshire 29-0 Hants 1pt, Warwicks 3pts
Match scorecard
Warwickshire's bid to confirm their Division One survival was hit by bad light on day two of their game with Hampshire at The Rose Bowl. In the play that was possible, Hampshire moved from their overnight score of 147-6 to 218 all out, with Liam Dawson the last man out for 74. Warwickshire then moved to 29-0 in reply, before bad light forced the close fours hours ahead of schedule. A Bears victory would see them survive and condemn Kent to Division Two. Dominic Cork had not added to his overnight 41 when he became Darren Maddy's fourth victim, to end his and Dawson's 64-run partnership. James Tomlinson followed soon after, but Dawson found a willing ally in Danny Briggs (27) and the youngsters shared an eighth-wicket stand of 50. After a break for bad light, Briggs was trapped lbw by Imran Tahir, with Dawson's 173-ball stay coming to an end soon after when he edged Keith Barker behind. Warwickshire openers Varun Chopra and Ian Westwod then were forced to resist Hampshire debutant Simon Jones, but the Bears were making steady progress the light forced a terminal break in play.
