Middlesex batted themselves into a lead of 152 as 21 wickets tumbled on day three at Derby. The visitors resumed their first innings on 228-3 but soon lost centurion Scott Newman (126), sparking a collapse of 7-22 to be 263 all out. Derbyshire struggled against Shaun Udal (4-37) and Pedro Collins (4-46), with only Chris Rogers (75) resisting as they were all out for 182. Mark Footitt grabbed two wickets as Middlesex moved to 71-4 at the close. On an apparently benign batting surface, bowlers dominated throughout the day. Newman added just seven to his overnight century before pulling a Robin Peterson delivery to Footitt at deep midwicket. Thereafter, the remaining Middlesex batting order offered a display of poor shot selection, with the last six all dismissed in single figures. In reply, Rogers went on to make his highest Championship score since June but his was the high point among more poor batting as Derbyshire perished to Udal's spin and Collins' pace. Batting for the second time in the day, Newman perished quickly in Middlesex's second innings, and Owais Shah and Dawid Malan were dismissed in consecutive Footitt overs just before the close.
