Captain Andrew Hall took four wickets to go with his first-innings century to lead Northants to a nine-wicket victory over Middlesex at Lord's.

Resuming on 48-1, 186 behind, Middlesex were given hope of a draw by Owais Shah (77) and Dawid Malan (44).

But when Shah fell to Nicky Boje, the hosts lost their last seven wickets for 89 runs to be bowled out for 285.

Rob White then hit an unbeaten 31 as Northants reached their target of 52 for the loss of just Stephen Peters.

There was no sign of the the problems to come for Middlesex when Shah and Sam Robson (42) extended their second-wicket partnership to 75.

When Robson fell, caught at second slip off Lee Daggett (3-49), Malan joined Shah for stand of 63.

Malan lost his middle stump driving at Hall, but Shah was given further support by Neil Dexter (37) until the former England man tried to loft Boje and was caught by Daggett to begin the Middlesex slide.

Dexter top-edged Boje into the hands of wicketkeeper David Murphy and, despite 32 from John Simpson, Hall and Daggett ran through the lower order.

Northants had 20 overs to reach their target and although Peters was trapped lbw by Pedro Collins, White rubber-stamped the victory that sees them climb to third in the Division Two table.
