LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Northampton:
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Sussex 175 Northants 118-5
Hall took over the captaincy from Nicky Boje
Andrew Hall took 3-19 on his first day as Northants captain to help his side bowl out Sussex for 175 on day one.
Hall removed Andy Hodd for seven and both James Anyon and Corey Collymore for ducks but Chris Nash saved face for Sussex, hitting 78 off 116 balls.
Opener Stephen Peters then ended the day on 55 not out as Northants closed on 118-5 in reply.
A decent first day at the helm for Hall ended in in disappointment when he was bowled off the final ball by Anyon.
South African all-rounder Hall was made skipper following the resignation of Nicky Boje on Monday and he began his first day in charge by catching Ed Joyce for 14 at slip off Lee Daggett.
With the visitors 105-3 at lunch they looked set to post a respectable score before losing their last six wickets for just nine runs off 44 balls.
But Northants struggled to build on their successful innings in the field with Alex Wakely and David Sales being dismissed in one Michael Thornley over.
Hall then had his off stump removed to leave the hosts 57 behind with five wickets in hand.
