An unbroken stand of 109 between Luke Wright and Carl Hopkinson helped Sussex secure a draw with Nottinghamshire. After Notts began the day on 429-4, they declared 531-6, Adam Voges eventually out for 136, to leave Sussex needing 222 to avoid an innings defeat. And, despite 87 from Chris Nash, the home side slipped to 140-4 midway through the afternoon session. But Wright (59) and Hopkinson (47) combined to take the score to 249-4 when the draw was agreed. Voges added 22 to his overnight score of 117 when he was trapped lbw attempting to sweep Ollie Rayner (3-110). Captain Chris Read then shared stands of 33 with Ali Brown (42) and 30 with Mark Ealham before declaring. Nash then shared partnerships of 62 with Mike Yardy (24) and 66 with Ed Joyce (17), to take Sussex to the apparent safety of 128-1. But Nash, Joyce and Murray Goodwin all fell in the space of four overs to set the alarm bells ringing, before Wright and Hopkinson stepped in.
