Tom Maynard's 57-ball century was in vain as Northants beat Glamorgan by six runs in Pro40 Division Two.

Batting first at Colwyn Bay, Northants racked up 268-7 with Niall O'Brien (82) and Stephen Peters (69) contributing, while Robert Croft picked up 4-43.

After opener Gareth Rees hit 73, Glamorgan slipped to 145-5 before Maynard took over.

He fell for 108 with the hosts still needing 24 from the final two overs, from where they were to fall short.

After Northants won the toss, Peters and O'Brien added 153 in 24 overs for the first wicket, a one-day record for any wicket at Colwyn Bay.

The visitors lost momentum when Croft accounted for both openers, as well as Andrew Hall and Alex Wakely, before Nicky Boje (43) and Rob White (35) added some late impetus.

Despite the efforts of Rees, Glamorgan were well behind the required rate until Maynard intervened.

He plundered four sixes and 14 fours in what was the Welsh county's fastest ever one-day century and shared 70 for the sixth-wicket with Ryan Watkins, who made just 10.

But, when Maynard was bowled by Johannes van der Wath (3-55) at the beginning of the penultimate over, Glamorgan's hopes of victory departed with him.
